Abstract In recent years, ecologists have embraced the human dimensions of their discipline and expanded remit to explore issues traditionally addressed by social sciences environmental humanities. This expansion offers opportunities engage with diverse methodologies, some which challenge orthodoxies conservation research; however, do not expertise use science methodologies in work. this Toolkit, we outline ways improve social‐ecological research outcomes through partnerships qualitative researchers. Ecologists – who lack epistemological methodological preparation needed for productive or mixed methods study design often used quantitative investigate systems. Though has enhanced our ecological knowledge led development evidence‐based practices, biodiversity crisis continues worsen as a result behaviours. Qualitative inquiry powerful insights into drivers behavioural phenomena but remains under‐represented despite its broadening demographic. presents substantial missed opportunity that warrants rectifying. Here, paradigm highlight benefits ecology ecologists.
